Peter Green | Head Coach
Rhodes College Director of Athletics, Matt Dean, has announced the hiring of Peter Green as Rhodes' next head women's volleyball coach for a start date of March 16, 2020.
"It's exciting to announce Coach Green as our next head volleyball coach," said Dean. "He comes highly recommended from the volleyball coaching community. His wealth of volleyball coaching experience at the collegiate level will be a tremendous addition to our staff."
With over 16 years of collegiate coaching experience, this will be Green's first D-III head coaching stint after recent stops at D-III Maryville College as an assistant coach, D-I Eastern Illinois (associate head coach) and D-II Chowan University (head coach). Besides Maryville, Green was also an assistant coach for D-III Randolph Macon and has also been an assistant coach for four other DI programs.
"I would like to thank the Rhodes College community and Athletic Director Matt Dean for this incredible opportunity to become a part of the rich heritage and pursuit of excellence which embodies the Rhodes athletics reputation," said Green. "I'm excited to become a part of the Rhodes community and ready to start this new chapter alongside the student-athletes. I look forward to Rhodes Volleyball becoming a force to reckon with in the SAA and off the court."
While at Maryville, Green helped guide the Scots to an undefeated season within the USA South. Maryville advanced to the NCAA tournament after earning 2019 USA South Regular Season West Division and Tournament Championships. During the 2019 campaign three Scots earned All-USA South recognition. Green was the head recruiting coordinator at Maryville, completed all scouting analysis, and was responsible for both the offensive and defensive systems of the Scots.
Prior to joining Maryville, Green worked with former Lynx head coach Samantha Wolinski at Eastern Illinois University (EIU). Wolinski, the winningest coach in Lynx volleyball history, coached at Rhodes from 1999-2012. Green was the associate head coach at EIU from 2015-2018 where the Panthers made two OVC Tournament appearances and finished third in 2017. That 2017 team also achieved the highest team GPA in the OVC. Statistically the Panthers were third or fourth in the conference in five categories and Green helped develop the 2016 and 2017 NCAA statistical leader in triple doubles in Taylor Smith.
While also coaching club volleyball in the Fredericksburg, Va. area, Green got his collegiate coaching start as a part-time assistant at D-III Randolph-Macon College from 2003-2008 before he was named head coach for Chowan. While at Chowan (2008-2012) he accumulated a 99-42 career record while winning a pair of CIAA Conference Championships. He garnered 2011 CIAA Coach of the Year accolades for the team's success.
Green first gained D-I experience during the 2012 season when he was an assistant coach at Virginia Commonwealth University where he helped the Rams to a 25-6 record and third place finish in the A-10 while directing middle blockers. Green was the middles coach for the 2012 Regional Rookie of the Year, Martina Samadan, who was ranked fifth nationally in blocks. He then advanced to the University of Virginia developing middles and helping the Cavaliers to an 18-14 mark in 2013. Green then went to the SEC at Mississippi State University in 2014 where he coached Payton Harris who was named to the SEC All-Freshman team.
"The committee thought Peter was the perfect fit for our team and we are excited he is joining the Rhodes community," added Dean.
Green graduated from Cedarville University in Ohio. He double majored in Business Administration and Management Info Systems while minoring in History and Religious Studies.
